On the morning of November 7, in Ho Chi Minh City, the opening ceremony of the Leading International Exhibition on Water Supply and Sewerage, Water Purification Technology and Wastewater Treatment in Vietnam took place – VIETWATER 2018. Opening his speech, Deputy Minister of Construction Bui Pham Khanh said: The socio-economic development of the country in recent years has always been associated with rapid urbanization. Therefore, the requirement for sustainable management of the urban system and urban technical infrastructure is always the top goal of the Government of Vietnam.
The effective implementation of solutions to synchronously build technical infrastructure systems and orient urban development towards smart cities, green growth, energy saving, and approach to the public revolution Industry 4.0 in Vietnam is always an urgent issue for the Ministry of Construction as well as local governments.
Water and the environment are two important industries that directly affect the socio-economic development and the quality of life of the people. Over the years, Vietnam has implemented many solutions to improve water quality, protect water resources and the environment, step up the expansion of international cooperation, receive, transfer and apply advanced technologies in the world. At the same time, there are policies to mobilize resources for the entire society to invest in these two areas.
Up to now, many positive results have been achieved such as: The total urban clean water supply capacity nationwide reaches about 9 million m3 / day / night; the rate of urban residents supplied with clean water through a centralized water supply system is about 85%; The rate of urban daily-life solid waste collection and treatment is about 85.5%.
However, the rate of water loss is still high, about 21.5%; the rate of urban wastewater collected and treated is very low, about 12%; rate of solid waste treated by burial method is over 75%. Wastewater and solid waste treatment technologies are outdated, and management is limited.
“In the process of socio-economic development and urban development, we have been facing many problems with water and air pollution and the impact of climate change.
Highly aware of the importance of water and the environment, the Government of Vietnam has made a strong commitment: Do not trade the environment for economic development, affecting sustainable development ”, Deputy Minister Khanh emphasized .
In addition, Deputy Minister Khanh, on behalf of the Ministry of Construction, highly appreciated the organization of the exhibition activities of the Vietnam Water Supply and Sewerage Association, the Deputy Minister hoped that the success of the exhibition would contribute to the implementation of the tasks. assigned by the Prime Minister in: Orientations on water supply and drainage in urban and industrial areas to 2025 with a vision to 2050; National strategy on integrated solid waste management to 2025 with a vision to 2050; National Program objectives and missions to ensure safe water supply.
That is why the Deputy Minister suggested the Exhibition Organizing Committee continue to innovate and improve the quality of content, programs and scale so that VietWater exhibition increasingly meets the requirements and attracts a large number of organizations and enterprises. and individuals participating in the exhibition, making an important contribution to the development of the Water and Environment industry.

One of the side events named VIETWATER 2018 that the society remembers is the project model of free water supply for the community (CSR).
This year, the organizer of the exhibition UBM will continue to accompany the Australian Association and the People’s Committee of Son La province to build and install clean water treatment systems for people in the area.
The special feature of this treatment device is that it is designed with a bicycle engine, not using an electric motor like conventional water treatment equipment.
This is suitable for the needs of people in rural areas, does not cost much and does not consume much energy. In addition, the device is highly useful at times like natural disasters and no electrical energy is available.
With this bicycle engine water treatment facility, more than 10,000 liters of clean water will be delivered to residents every day. This is an activity of great significance and contributes many positive benefits to the community, especially people in remote areas.
